BDBlack Codes brings over 30 years of experience in the field of accessibility for persons with disabilities to designers, building owners, code enforcement officials and disability organizations. Brian Black is an ICC Certified Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner.
Previously the Director of Building Codes and Standards for the United Spinal Association (formerly the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association), Brian has extensive experience in the development and enforcement of access requirements in both the model building codes and federal regulatory fields. His achievements include:
--ICC Certified Accessibility Inspector/Plans examiner and an ICC Subject Matter Expert and Instructor for Accessibility
--Appointed to the ADA Accessibility Guidelines Advisory Committee by the U.S. Access Board, chairing its Accessible Route Subcommittee; awarded a National Performance Review Award by the Vice President
--Member of the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee A117 for Accessibility, chairing its Plumbing and ADAAG Harmonization Subcommittees and serving on its Residential Subcommittee
--Testified at the request of Congressman Henry J. Hyde to the U.S. House of Representatives Constitution Subcommittee on the efficacy of the federal Fair Housing Act
--Served on the International Code Council (ICC) Means of Egress Committee that heralded revisions to the International Building Code access requirements which meet or exceed federal access regulations
--Appointed to the Technical Coordinating Committee of the National Fire Protection NFPA 5000 Building and Safety Code
